Several ideas have struck a chord with me, but the one that resonates most is this: happiness is a choice. It may not feel that way, especially when we’re swept up by overwhelming emotions. But the truth is, much of what we experience happens in the mind—not always in the world outside.
We get to choose which “movie” to watch in our minds. If we don’t make a conscious choice, an old film will play on repeat—often one filled with worry or fear. But we hold the remote. We create the script, direct the scenes, and project it onto the world around us.
When our awareness is rooted in the present moment, we become mindful, not mindless. Instead of letting our mind run the show, we gently remind ourselves: We’re in charge. We have the remote.
Happiness becomes less about what happens to us and more about how we respond. It is our responsibility—our ability to respond—with awareness, intention, and presence.
